| 21st Newham East Scout GroupBeaver ScoutsI am keeping Beaver Scouts going with four to five boys. It would be good to increase our numbers. Christine English Cub ScoutsThe Cubs have a steady number and are enjoying themselves. Over the past Scout year we have done many things. In April, we had a good representation from the boys in attending the St. Georges Day Service. We went to Thriftwood Campsite in June where the boys lit and cook a Berger on an open fire. The boys worked towards their Naturalist badge and Conservationist badge including going pond dipping, also the Explorer badge where they built a shelter out of natural materials. We also enjoyed a warm, sunny and dry camp. July was when we attended a wet cold soggy day at Gilwell Park for the Millennium Celebration. The boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves with the different activities put on. We had to cancel September’s camp unfortunately, but we had a good joint conker challenge with the Scouts and Astra pack in October. We also had a visit from the Mayor of Newham to open our notice board, which is on the church wall opposite Sainbury’s. He spent a lot of time talking to the boys and parents. November brings in our annual visit to see the Lord Mayor’s show in London and are keeping our fingers crossed for a dry day. In December we have the district carol service, Christmas parties and our usual visit to see the pantomime in Ilford. Catherine & Ted ScoutsWe have nine invested scouts and two cubs attending for the link and challenge badge. After the St. George’s service we took the scouts to Hargreaves campsite for soggy games of cricket, rounders and finishing off with wall climbing and abseiling. June was camping with the cubs where the scouts cooked on open fires. They also took part in the Millennium celebration at Gilwell Park. In July they took part in the district scout’s games evening over on Wanstead Flats. The scouts do take part in some of the activities with our cubs which help to form a good healthy relationship and encouragement for the older cubs to come into the troop. We have already planned some more district activities for the future including a ten pin bowling trip at the end of November. Catherine & Ted The group has room for new members in all our sections.
