On
16th December 2006 all of the members of the club participated in a
Christmas Collection at Savacentre Becton.
The collection was to support the Police Summer Camp project where
60 under-privileged local children, who have never previously had a
holiday, are taken for a week’s holiday in the summer. The holiday
includes days out to such places as Thorpe Park and Clacton.
The carriage for Santa and the reindeer arrived at 8am and Rotarians
took shifts to rattle buckets and collect from 9am to 6pm. They were
assisted by members of the Savacentre staff who kept them
replenished with warm drinks. One Rotarian brought his dogs which
are so large they could almost be used as reindeer.
The total collection was £956, which was made up to £1,000
through the generosity of one of the Rotarians.
Below are pictures of the collection and at the end are pictures of
Nick Pollard collection a cheque for £1,000 on 26th March 2007 on
behalf of the Police Summer Camp project.
Rotarians from Newham will be helping at the camp during August.
